Welcome to the Cape Town School of English !

The Cape Town School of English, is a language school which teaches English as a Foreign Language (EFL). It offers short (2 weeks) or long (six months to 1 year) courses for students from all parts of the world.

Students travel to South Africa to see and experience the nation - a world in one country. Along with their travels and holidays, they also do a short English course for study or work purposes from 1 week to 2 months or more.

Courses for individuals or groups. They organise the students trip to South Africa to study English. Also they arrange accommodation, travel, airport transfers, car rentals and most other bookings.

The School

It has been in operation since 1991.

The school follows the same principles as all international EFL schools with teaching materials mainly from the UK.

It is situated outside of the city centre with premises with 5 classrooms, a main office/reception area, a kitchen and staff room. The classrooms are of varying sizes. In the classrooms there are whiteboards, desks, CD/tape recorders, TV and video facilities.

The Students

They are adult learners who wish to improve or learn English, at all levels. On occasion younger students are accepted as well.

Attendance Certificate (Letter) with the level of English achieved but no National Education Certificate. The students take the Cambridge and TOEFL exams, run by the British Council and the American Embassy respectively.

Approximate costs are as follows:
TOEFL Exam: US$110 and
Cambridge exams (F. C., Advanced and Proficiency): R900.

Students from certain countries could travel to South Africa on a Holiday visa, for a period of 1 – 3 months which is issued on entry to South Africa.

Others would need to apply for a study visa. Students are accepted at any time of the year and are expected to attend the school regularly for the period of their registration. The school closes for period of 3 weeks in December/January each year.
